‘Shop with a Cop is worth investing in, so are the county’s children’- Jay Willoughby, JECDB Chair

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The Joint Economic Community Development Board approved a $10,000 donation to this year’s Shop with a Cop program.  This donation is three times what the JECDB Board usually donates annually to Shop with a Cop.

Jacksboro Police Chief Daniel Smith (top photo) attended the meeting and requested a donation for the program.

“This is my third year over Shop with a Cop.  Last year we took 400 kids shopping at $100 per kid. You guys gave us $2,500 last year and that helped so much. Anything you could donate this year would be wonderful,” Smith said.

“That’s a great program. I would like to ask the board to take care of 100 children this year, that’s $10,000 and that will impact 100 families,” said JECDB board chair Jay Willoughby.

Willoughby’s suggestion was unanimously approved by the JECDB Board.

“That is amazing, that will help so much,” Smith said.

Willoughby said the program was worth investing in and so were the children of the county.

“I encourage everyone to go down there and spend 10 minutes during that event and you’ll get misty eyed… It’s going to have a tremendous impact on these families,” Willoughby said.

In other business, the JECDB Board approved the election of board positions.

Current board chair Jay Willoughby and vice chair Frank Wallace were both nominated and approved to remain in their positions.

Jay Willoughby was re-elected as the JECDB Chair on Thursday night. Frank Wallace, not pictured, was re-elected as vice chair to the JECDB. Regina Kennedy was chosen to fill the secretary/treasurer position.

LaFollette Utility General Manager Regina Kennedy was elected as the new Secretary/Treasurer to the JECDB. That position on the JECDB was previously held by Kenny Baird who recently retired from LUB. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/09/2024-6AM)
