WLAF welcomes veteran radio sports talk show host and former Cougar Jake Miller

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- If you love sports, Campbell County High School sports and University of Tennessee sports, then tune in to Jake Miller Sports Talk on WLAF on Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm.

The show will be “geared around Tennessee athletics and Campbell County athletics, mainly college and high school sports.”

Miller lived in Knoxville for the past eight years, but just recently moved back home to good ole Campbell County. He spent four of those years in Knoxville working for Fox Sports, and now he’s back in his hometown to do what he loves best and that’s talk Cougar and Vol sports and engage with callers.

Miller has a “burning passion for sports” and a “passion for getting listeners to call in.”

“I want to get everybody involved, I am heavy on listener involvement, I want to talk to my listeners, I want to meet my listeners,” Miller said.

A former CCHS Cougar, Miller played varsity tennis for four years and graduated in 2013.

Jake Miller also joins the WLAF-Doyle’s Tire Shop Sports Network as sideline reporter for Campbell Football

Miller has always loved sports. His family would often watch games together at the house when he was growing up. Watching these games with his family helped make him a better sports talk host.  In the very early 1990s, his grandmother went blind, but she continued to enjoy spending game time with the family.

“We’re watching games here, and she can’t see the TV, so I had to go into great detail in explaining what is happening or what just happened or what was going on, so when you have a situation like that growing up, it makes it real easy to paint those pictures for people,” Miller said.

He also said he’s thrilled to be back home and excited to talk about college and high school sports, and to get listeners engaged.

The focal point of this week’s first show will be “how Name Image and Likeness (NIL) is still affecting college football negatively, more so than it is positive.” NIL allows players to sign endorsement deals, but according to Miller, it has turned into “pay for play” which has put an end to the “Cinderella stories” that everyone loves.

WLAF’s Matthew Moore, left, with Jake Miller of WLAF.

“Basically, if your school has money, you are going to get athletes and if you get outbid by everybody, how is this going to shape the future of college football and college basketball for the next five years,” Miller said.

Thursday’s show will also feature a guest host Tucker Harlin from Vols Wire. Harlin is the grandson of Dr. Joe Johnson, former president of the University of Tennessee.
