JACKSBORO, TN. (WLAF)- The town of Jacksboro could be facing another police shortage.
Chief Daniel Smith has submitted his resignation. His last day is July 23.

“I am getting out of law enforcement for a while,” he said.
The veteran officer became chief in a quick manner. Smith took the reins of the department in October 2022 after over half of the force walked out. This position added to his lengthy career in law enforcement. Smith has protected the community for 25 years. Working in Scott and Morgan counties before he came to Campbell County, he was a patrol officer and a drug agent. He worked at the LaFollette Police Department for 21 years before making the move to Jacksboro.
He isn’t the only one leaving. Patrol Officer Savannah Tielman has also resigned. Her last day is July 24.
For a department that only staffs six full-time officers, this is a drastic reduction in the force.
“We have been in that shape before. This is nothing new,” said Jacksboro Mayor Shane Greene. “It ain’t just Jacksboro.”
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office has agreed to assist with patrols, according to Greene.
“They are willing to help out,” he said.
Applications are being taken for the police chief’s position. Those wanting to apply can pick up the paperwork at Jacksboro City Hall on Main Street.
