CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN (WLAF ) – It’s almost that time of year that some folks dread and others look forward to seeing. To help, Tennessee’s annual sales tax holiday returns this weekend, running from 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 25, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2025.
During the three-day weekend, Tennesseans can buy certain clothing, school supplies, and computers without paying sales tax.
What’s Covered:
- Clothing: General apparel items like shirts, pants, socks, shoes, and dresses are tax-free if each item costs $100 or less. However, things like jewelry, handbags, or sports gear are not included.
- School Supplies: Items such as backpacks, binders, crayons, paper, pencils, and art materials are tax-free if each item costs $100 or less.
- Computers: Personal-use computers, laptops, and tablets are tax-free if priced at $1,500 or less.
What’s Not Covered:
- Items priced above the limit ($100 for clothing and school supplies, $1,500 for computers)
- Items normally sold together that exceed the price limit
- Business or commercial purchases
- Software, printer supplies, flash drives, and household appliances
