LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Looking back to 1987, it’s hard to believe it’s been 38 years ago, and it was a totally different century.
The number one song in 1987 was Walk Like An Egyptian by The Bangles, and 3 Men and a Baby was the number one movie. The most popular car was the Ford Escort, and gas was 71 cents a gallon.
Locally in 1987, Lafollette had two new restaurants open, Hardee’s and Arby’s, and this was the year the Lafollette Dogwood Trails opened. The gym at the Lafollette Middle School was dedicated as the Jerry Irwin Memorial Gymnasium.
This was also the year Campbell County unemployment leaped to 19.1 % unemployment, but by the end of the year it had dropped a few points. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/06/2025-6AM)
