CARYVIILLE, TN. (WLAF)- A Michigan man was arrested over the weekend after multiple callers reported an alleged drunk driver.
Caryville Police found 64-year-old Bernabe Salinas, Canton, MI., in the parking lot of a restaurant off the 141 exit, the report said. The vehicle he was in matched the description of the car that had been reported to police.
When police approached the black mini-van the smell of marijuana was present and Salinas smelled of alcohol, the report said. Salinas allegedly admitted he had had one drink earlier in the day and denied having smoked marijuana in last 72 hours. While he agreed to take a field sobriety test, he offered several health reasons as to why he may not pass it, the warrant said. He was unable to pass a series of tests leading police to believe Salinas “was driving under the influence of an intoxicant.”
Following his arrest, Salinas refused to allow authorities to conduct a blood draw. A search of the van allegedly revealed a small amount of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and rolling papers, the report said.
Salinas was charged with DUI, violation of the implied consent law, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
