JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- At Monday’s regular monthly meeting, Campbell County Commissioners approved a fourth amendment to an interlocal agreement for the joint waterline extension phase one in the first district Victory Road and water tank project between LaFollette Utility Board and the county.
County Commissioner Rusty Orick said the waterline committee met last Thursday with LUB and that this was their proposal to use the American Recovery Plan Act funds before the time limit runs out.
“We are running out of time with these ARPA funds, so we are going to have to move forward, we have until December 31st of next year and these funds have to be spent. I know we were holding these funds back for Big Four, but the mayor secured funding for Big Four, the LaFollette Utility Board said they were getting ready to start engineering on the Big Four project, so if you want to spend this money in this direction, it will service the valley, the upper valley and what we actually tried to get to with the start of this, which is Alder Springs, my motion is to go ahead and pass this and hopefully, it is the final amendment to this interlocal agreement,” Orick said.
The motion passed unanimously.
The County and LUB ARPA Water line project interlocal agreement was originally signed in February of 2022 and was a $6 million dollar project, with the county covering half and LUB covering the other half. Since then, multiple amendments have been made as the project moves forward and additional funding has been added by the county, including $1.2 million in funds which was allotted in August of 2024.
