On Monday at school dismissal time, police received multiple calls about a reckless driver

The driver of this truck is facing multiple charges including violation of the open container law. The suspect’s open container was placed on the back bumper, according to police.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Calls to 911 about a reckless driver came in from drivers in the La Follette School Zone, at the middle and elementary schools, on Monday afternoon. Callers told 911 operators that a pick-up truck was swerving in and out of traffic, according to La Follette Dispatch communication.

“I was passing Dunkin’ when I first saw the suspect driving toward Jacksboro on the four lane. He was in the left lane and switched lanes, fishtailing at a high rate of speed. I was able to perform a traffic stop in the Tractor Supply parking lot,” said La Follette Police Narcotics Sgt. Noah Riggs.

Lots of law enforcement officers arrived on the scene to assist Narcotics Sergeant Noah Riggs Monday afternoon in the parking lot of Tractor Supply.

Riggs made contact with the driver of the white Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, a Hispanic male who said he was from California. The driver of the Chevy was identified as 28-year old Daniel Zacarias Pineda-Araniva.

The suspect, the lone occupant in the truck bearing Claiborne County plates, was belligerent and uncooperative, according to Riggs. Pineda-Araniva, a convicted felon with a history, is facing multiple charges in Campbell County.

“I thought he’d kill someone he was driving so recklessly,” said LPD Sgt. Noah Riggs, about the driver of this truck.

Daniel Zacarias Pineda-Araniva, 28, 365 Hunley Road, Speedwell, was charged with felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm while under the influence, DUI, violation of the implied consent law, violation of the open container law and resisting arrest.

Pineda-Araniva was placed under arrest and transported to the Campbell County Jail. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-01/13/2026-6AM)
