Speeding car leads to traffic stop, two drug related arrests

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Jacksboro Police Officer Therman Pearson was recently on routine patrol late at night when he saw a car without an illuminated license plate and traveling above the posted speed limit.

On Saturday, March 28, at 11:45pm, the officer pulled over a tan Toyota car that was traveling west on Highway 25W.

Upon making contact with the driver, Matthew King, and the passenger, Roger Leffew, Pearson allegedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. When asked about the marijuana, Leffew said all he had was a bag of it in his hand before revealing it to the officer.

Each man was instructed to step out of the car and stand at the hood. Then the officer saw King allegedly throw something on the ground and was discovered to be a small, plastic container with two plastic baggies containing a white crystal-like substance.

At the feet of Leffew, the officer saw a large freezer bag containing a large amount of a white crystal-like substance.

Officers Amanda Jackson and Pearson searched the car locating drug paraphernalia.

Both King and Leffew were transported to the Campbell County Jail.

King told police he wanted an attorney while Leffew wanted to talk. Leffew told police he had paid $1,500 for meth in Knoxville and was bringing it back to Campbell County for another person and that King was used just as a ride for pay, according to the arrest report.
