LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- As Paul Harvey would say “and now the rest of the storyâ€. This Throwback Thursday picture is from 1935 and shows Cecil Lane, the guy who won, in the wagon, and Lee Rigsby, who lost, making a stop at the Royal Lunch and Billiards.
They made a friendly wager on the Joe Louis – Max Baer fight, and the loser would pull the winner in a wagon to Cincinnati. On their way, they stopped at the Royal where the proprietor Howard Booth treated them to food and drink. While here, the boys picked up a few dollars and Rigsby left wearing a new pair of shoes an admiring sports fan gave him. A couple of days later, it was reported they were in London, Kentucky, going strong. And now you know the rest of the story. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/27/2025-6AM)
