MORLEY, TN. (WLAF)- An autopsy will determine who will investigate a man found dead along Highway 25W Wednesday afternoon.

At 2:25pm yesterday, a single car accident was called in by a passerby. When authorities arrived they found “a vehicle still partially in the lane of travel,” according to Campbell County Sheriff Wayne Barton. Inside the automobile was a 62-year-old man that was “very well known in the White Oak community,” Barton said.

He had been shot and was dead when police arrived. The body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the manner of death. If it was a self-inflicted wound, the CCSO will head up the investigation. Should the autopsy reveal he was shot by someone else, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will take the lead, according to Barton.

The vehicle was found along Highway 25W near the exit for Highway 90.

Authorities are not releasing the man’s name yet. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 7/18/2024- 3:10PM)
