JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Tuesday marked a momentous occasion for Jacksboro Elementary School with a groundbreaking for the cafeteria and gym expansion project.

The $2.490 million dollar project has already been started, according to GCE Construction, who is doing the work.

Director of Schools Jennifer Fields said the Jacksboro Elementary School gym and cafeteria expansion was a project close to her heart as she spent her first 20 years teaching at JES.

Director of Schools Jennifer Fields, multiple school board members, and Jacksboro teachers turned out for the ceremonial groundbreaking.

Fields said it was an important occasion for her personally and “beyond a special project” as she had “spent her first 20 years of teaching” at Jacksboro Elementary School.

“I remember when the overcrowding began and now you are busting at the seams so that is why we have so many teachers here today to support this because I know you are looking forward to this expansion…this is very well deserved … I am just thankful and blessed to be a part of it,” Fields said.

Campbell County Schools Supervisor of Maintenance and Transportation Josh Parker said it was an “exciting time for Jacksboro Elementary School.”

“This expansion will help with the overcrowding in both the gym and the cafeteria, and it will also include some outdoor seating,” Fields said.

According to GCE Construction, a “rough estimate for the project completion is 400 days.” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/24/2024-6AM)
