After 30 years working for the citizens of Campbell County, Henning is ready to retire

Gene Henning, left, is honored by Circuit Court Clerk Bobby Vann.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- “Gene’s another one of the outstanding employees here at the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office,” said Clerk Bobby Vann, now in his 23rd year. It was a mix of happiness and sadness for Vann on Wednesday in the upstairs courtroom of the Campbell County Courthouse, because Gene Henning was retiring.

Fellow workers gathered to enjoy lunch and desserts and to honor Henning in the lunch hour yesterday. “It’s been a good run. I spent 10 years at the 911 Center and then the last 20 here,” said Henning.

“I first met Gene when he’d call me out on emergency runs at 4am back in my Chief Deputy career,” said Vann. Henning’s been a Deputy Clerk and then the office’s bookkeeper.

“I’ve been with Bobby since 2005, about this time of year,” said Henning, a 1986 graduate of Campbell County High School. “My mother is from here, and we moved here when I was in high school. This is home,” said Henning. Henning had always been in Mississippi before the move.

“Even when he was at the 911 Center, Gene’s been such a dependable, honest worker, and there’s never been a problem. Gene is the kind of employee everyone wants to hire,” said Vann.

“This is a new opportunity. I’m not sure what to do next,” said Henning.

Steven McCullah, Henning’s assistant, will step up to fill Henning’s position.

From all of us at WLAF, we wish you a most enjoyable retirement, Gene. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-12/04/2025-6AM)
