JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County travels to Blankenship Field tonight looking to defeat Oak Ridge for the first time since 2013. One Campbell County Cougar is playing to break a record as well.
Gavin Owens leads Campbell County in combined touchdowns this year, having 23; 17 of those touchdowns came on the ground. That number, 17, means Owens is tied with C.J Allen for most rushing touchdowns by a Cougar in a season. Allen set the record for rushing touchdowns in 2020 and repeated it in 2021.
The next time Owens steps foot into the end zone on a run play, he will be the new leader for rushing touchdowns in a single season at Campbell County.
He didn’t expect to have that many rushing touchdowns this year, Owens said. Initially he came in expecting to mainly play receiver. He is happy with the way he has played all year, but most importantly, wanted to give all the glory to God, Owens said.
Owens will have his opportunity to break the record this evening in the Science City as the Cougars face off against Oak Ridge. Kickoff is at 7pm, and Les Martin and Brent Allen bring the live coverage beginning at 6:30pm over the various WLAF media outlets – AM 1450 and FM 100.9 radio, WLAF-TV 12 or 1080, YouTube, Roku TV, Amazon Firestick, Facebook, Twitch and www.1450wlaf.com.
