Gary Lynn Byrge was born November 27, 1961, in Anderson County, Tennessee. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and true mountain man whose life was rooted in family, and the great outdoors. He was the beloved son of the late E.B. Byrge and Louise Hatmaker Byrge. Gary had a deep love for carpentry and found purpose in working with his hands—building, fixing, and creating. He loved the outdoors in all its forms, from the mountains and lakes he called home to the beach where he spent summers with family. Whether hunting in the woods, fishing in a quiet stream, or casting a line into the ocean, Gary found peace in nature and joy in the simple moments it offered. Above all else, Gary loved his girls, he leaves behind four devoted daughters: Dallas Byrge (Keyon), Misty (Crystal) Byrge, Kenzie (Donny) Sellers, and Jessica (Daniel) Bennett. Waiting on him in heaven was his loving and devoted wife of over 30 years, Tyra Byrge, the great love of his life. Their bond was one of loyalty, commitment, and deep affection, and her passing left a space that was felt by all who knew them. He was a proud grandfather to Emma, Elijah, Arrow, Ava, Riley, Bradley, Conner, Kathleen, Wesley, Paislee, Aliegha, Landon, Kaylin, Bobby and Dawson, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Gary grew up in a large family and is survived by his siblings who love him very much. Tommy Byrge, Mary Lloyd, Jackie Byrge, Linda Davis, Larry Wayne Byrge, and Michael Byrge. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, E.B. Byrge, mother Louise Byrge, sister, Judy Maiden and mother-in-law Judith Welms. Gary leaves behind a legacy defined by integrity, and a deep respect for the land and life around him. A craftsman at heart, he found purpose in the work of his hands and peace in living close to nature. Whether in the mountains or on the water, his life reflected self-reliance, resilience, and a genuine appreciation for the simple, honest way of living.
Visitation will be held at Hatmaker Funeral Home in Rocky Top, Tennessee, on Friday the 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held for the family on Saturday.
