JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- On Monday at the December regular meeting, County Commissioners approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with both the senior citizen centers in the county, making the $100,000 fund allocation to the two centers “official.”

The money is coming from the county’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and is a one-time contribution from the county to the senior centers. All the funds must be spent by September 30, 2026, in accordance with ARPA policy.

Commissioners passed the budget amendment last month appropriating the leftover ARPA funds and designating them to the area senior centers. However, before the county could approve the funds to be released, both senior centers had to show how the funds were to be spent by the commission’s Dec. 9th workshop.

The Senior Center located in LaFollette will get $65,000, while the Senior Center in Jellico will get $35,000.

The MOU was established between the county and each senior center to “provide structure for the expenditure of these ARPA funds to alleviate the deficiencies of the Campbell County Senior Center’s operation. The funds will be used for the purpose of remodeling the interior and purchasing appliances.”

The county is making the contribution of the ARPA funds to the senior centers to “further community growth” and to assist the centers to “maintain and increase the health and wellness of seniors” in the county. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-12/17/2024-6AM)
