‘This is likely the most important hire in 30 years’- Jack Lynch, Campbell County Mayor
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Campbell County’s list of 23 applicants to replace retiring Finance Director Jeff Marlow was whittled down last week to five applicants with an alternate. However, one applicant, Christopher Phillips, who was in the final field of five applicants, accepted another position in the interim. That leaves Karen Henegar, Eric Pearson, Brandon Walters and Peyton Webb. “We picked five with an alternate. Mr. Phillips took a different job, and the alternate declined due to the public nature of the job which would reveal his name publicly. That left us with four,” said Campbell County Mayor Jack Lynch.
Henegar, from La Follette, has been with the Campbell County Finance Department since 1996 and is currently Deputy Director of Ledgers. Pearson is from Tazewell and is the sitting director of finance for Claiborne County. Walters, from La Follette, is an auditor with Pugh & Pugh. Webb, an analyst for TVA , is from Jacksboro.
“The Financial Management System (FMS) committee has diligently worked to proceed in hiring a new finance director. We take this seriously and have narrowed 23 applications down to the ones who will be interviewed,†said Lynch, who also serves as chairman of the FMS.

The FMS committee met twice in June to start the search for a finance director, after county finance director Jeff Marlow announced his resignation/retirement and that his last day will be Sept. 26th. That is the last day for the county’s purchasing agent Lisa Bowlin and the county’s budget analyst Richard Terry.
“This should be a hire based only on a combination of education, experience, ability and what is best for Campbell County. We have spoken to each of the four applicants, and they have agreed to be interviewed,†said Lynch.
July 22nd and 24th were tentatively set for interviews. The next FMS meeting is on Tuesday, July 22, at 6pm, at the county courthouse. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 7/14/2025-6AM)
