CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF) – Follow the Elk is Back. The Follow the Elk project is being relaunched. The local art project that began last year is continuing. According to organizers, the project seeks to “find beautiful, meaningful spots around Campbell County and bring them to life with local art and a touch of history”.

Originally, Follow the Elk was Tennessee Arts Commission project, and saw signage and artwork installed last year at five different historical sites around the county. The project showcases some of the area’s hidden historical gems, while also showing off the talent of local artists.  Five local artists were chosen to participate in the original “Follow the Elk” project.

Follow the Elk is now a completely independent group looking for local funding and support.

The Follow the Elk Committee is once again” looking for those interested in creating a new Campbell County Trail celebrating important Campbell County landmarks.” Artistic renditions will be placed at each site with an Elk Trail Marker explaining their importance.

“We’re looking for creative minds, passionate locals, and talented artists to help us dream up new mural locations and stories to tell. No supplies needed—just bring your ideas and enthusiasm,” organizers said.

“This will be a great opportunity to get people involved and learn more about our rich history and culture here in Campbell County whether they are local or new to the area.”

The Follow the Elk Committee will meet at 6pm, Mon., Aug. 18, at Postmark LaFollette located at 119 South Tennessee Ave., LaFollette. Anyone interested should attend the meeting.
