LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- There is a FLOOD WATCH for Campbell County and the region running through Thursday morning. Expect very light rain and mist Wednesday morning. Heavier rainfall settles in after lunch for the afternoon (high of 55) and into Wednesday night (low of 43). This is when the main period of concern will be for potential flooding.
Rounds of moderate to possibly heavy rainfall are expected through Thursday morning. Increasing flood risk across the area. You should be prepared for rising creeks, rivers, and streams. If you live in a flood prone area, have a plan for if flooding occurs.
Expect rain-free days on Thursday, after sun up, and Friday with rain moving back in after midnight Friday into Saturday morning. Another strong storm system arrives Saturday evening with the potential for severe weather and additional flooding with about 2 to 4 inches of rainfall possible area-wide.
The potential exists for a significant flooding event through the weekend. Stream and river flooding, flooded roadways, as well as mud and rock slides are all possible. Please stay connected to WLAF for the latest forecast as rainfall amounts will continue to be adjusted through the week. Additionally, another round of gusty winds is possible across the Campbell County, East Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and North Carolina mountains Saturday night. This could exacerbate issues due to saturated grounds, leading to higher probabilities of downed trees and power outages.
