One Great Dane was saved while another dog did not make it in east La Follette house fire

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Multiple fire agencies responded as firefighters fought a house fire in the Chapel Heights neighborhood on Monday afternoon. The call came in just before 3pm with the Campbell County Rural Fire Service being paged out first.

Mutual aid was provided to the CCRFS by Caryville and La Follette Fire Departments.

Heavy smoke was showing upon arrival, and bystanders told firefighters that there were two Great Dane dogs inside the home in the living room, and that they had attempted to go in and get them but was unsuccessful due to the heat and smoke.

Firefighters entered the home and were able to locate one of the dogs in a cage still alive and pulled the cage to the door. Bystanders assisted the fireman in getting the cage through the rest of the door. Firefighters and Campbell EMS first responders placed oxygen on the dog, and it was taken to the emergency vet’s office. However, one dog did perish in the home.

The call of this house fire in east La Follette came in around 3pm Monday.

Crews had a difficult time with the wind and accessing the fire due to the floor not being stable. No firefighters were injured, and crews cleared the scene some three hours later around 6pm.
