Firefighters able to fairly quickly get transfer station fire under control though it continues to present a challenge

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Towe String Road Convenience Center’s transfer station caught fire Sunday afternoon. The dispatch for firefighters was at 2pm.

La Follette, Caryville and Campbell (Rural) Fire Departments responded along with Campbell EMS, EMA and sheriff’s department. Black smoke billowed from the fire early before smoke turned to a white color as it lifted into the sunny sky.

Smoke, at times, was so thick, you could not see more than a foot in front of yourself.

Crews will continue at the scene for a few more hours. Heavy equipment is pulling out debris inside the transfer station in order for firefighters to completely extinguish the fire.

Thousands of gallons of water were used to fight Sunday’s blaze.
