‘We are extremely proud of the accomplishments-” Patricia Siwinski, Shelter Director
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Friends of Campbell County Animals (FCCA) is celebrating its 10th anniversary of operating the Campbell County Animal Shelter. As a result, a celebration is set for Saturday, July 19, noon until 5:30 pm, at the shelter on Towe String Road.
There will be food and ice cream for everyone, including dogs and cats. You are encouraged to stop by and check out the community’s animal shelter.
“It has been a long and hard journey for the FCCA team, but we are extremely proud of the accomplishments we have made over the last 10 years” said Patricia Siwinski, Shelter Director. Siwinski commented that “FCCA was asked by Campbell County Commissioners to take over the operations of the animal shelter in 2015 and, while we were initially set up as an animal rescue organization, we were both scared and excited to help the animals and the Campbell County community.”
FCCA is a nonprofit organization that manages and oversees the daily operations of the Campbell County Animal Shelter for Campbell County. FCCA’s purpose is to preserve animal life through humane sheltering and finding homes for the thousands of homeless animals that enter our shelter every year.
Since taking over the shelter in July 2015, we have cared for over 27,000 animals. Sierra Housley, Animal Shelter Manager commented “I look forward to showing our community our small, yet mighty animal shelter that has a fantastic team that is truly making a difference in the lives of the animals in Campbell County.” Housley further noted “I am very proud of our awesome animal shelter team that works hard every day of the year to help the animals which ultimately benefits the residents in our community.”
FCCA also began a low-cost Spay/Neuter program in 2019 and has spayed / neutered over 7,900 dogs and cats in the county. This program has been very successful in providing a low-cost alternative to residents in Campbell County by providing a more affordable alternatives to get their animals fixed. In addition, this program is a key factor to address the animal overpopulation problem in the community, primarily by reducing the number of kittens and puppies. This program has helped prevent the birth of well over 40,000 kittens and puppies.
FCCA continues its goal in alignment with the desires of the Campbell County Commission to be designated a “no-kill” shelter which simply means that they have a goal of a live-release of at least 90% as they are recognized as an open intake county animal shelter that they will have to euthanize some animals due to injury, illness, behavior or safety issues. In the fiscal year 2024-25, FCCA was proud to achieve its goal with a live-release rate of 92.5%.
The adoption center, animal shelter, is open Tuesday – Saturday, noon – 5:30pm, at 749 Towe String Road, Jacksboro, next to the convenience center. The center’s telephone number is 423-566-8018.
