JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- John Faulkner, known by most all as Coach Faulkner, passed away Sunday, and today we honor the coach with a story from the WLAF archives.
This story is from April 11, 2025- At this afternoon’s five o’clock track meet on The Hill at Campbell High, a true Campbell County legend was honored. John Faulkner was recognized for his many years of successfully starting and coaching the Campbell County High School track program.

The man who started Campbell High’s track program is being honored today
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- At this afternoon’s five o’clock track meet on The Hill at Campbell High, a true Campbell County legend will be honored. John Faulkner will be recognized for his many years of successfully starting and coaching the Campbell County High School track program.

“Track was his love,” said Margaret Faulkner, John’s wife of 62 years come Friday. The couple married at Margaret’s parents home just outside London, Ky. “Our honeymoon was that night at Cumberland Falls, and then John was off to a meet over at Barbourville where he and his Cumberland College Indians competed,” said Margaret.
“It means a lot at this age for him to be remembered and honored. He worked so hard over the years. John even drove the bus to the meets,” said Margaret.
Coach Faulkner had many great athletes along the way and several that excelled at state meets. “He pushed them hard,” said Margaret.
The Faulkner twins ran for their father with Jill claiming the state championship in the mile, and John was the state runner-up in the mile. “We were fortunate that both of them received scholarships; Jill to Auburn and John to UAB.
