LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Members of the Local Emergency Planning Commission met on Thursday evening, voting in “moral support” of an “IPAWS emergency notification system.”
Jay Muncy Director of the Campbell County Emergency Management Agency spoke to the Emergency Management Planning Commission about the system.
“The county is looking at a system called TextMyGov. Part of that has an emergency notification system that will send emergency wireless communications for mass notifications such as weather alerts. We just wanted to bring it to you all and are just asking for moral support. We don’t have a warning system in this county, and this is a step in the right direction,” Muncy said.
According to Muncy, IPAWS would provide mass alerts to all citizens in the county via cell phone texts “like if road is closed or potential flooding in areas, or if a road is washed out.”
