‘Channing’s strong work ethic and respectful demeanor set him apart’- Coach Drew Crabtree

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Channing Dotson, a sixth grader at LaFollette Middle School, has once again earned a spot at the state cross country competition. This marks his second time qualifying; his first was in 2023 as a fourth grader. Channing’s journey in the sport began in second grade, sparked by a visit to his older brother Hunter’s practice when he was just six years old.

Cross Country Coach Drew Crabtree praised Channing’s dedication and character, saying, “He’s always competed at the top of the sport.” Crabtree added that Channing’s strong work ethic and respectful demeanor set him apart. “He leads by example—never complains about practice and gives every race his all. I couldn’t be more proud of the effort he’s put in and I’m excited to see how far he’ll go in the years ahead.”

Channing’s father, Jason, credits Coach Crabtree for playing a pivotal role in his son’s development. “He’s instilled qualities in Channing that have helped shape him into the runner he is today,” Jason shared.

Channing is the third of four sons born to Jason and Bree Dotson. With talent, drive, and a supportive team behind him, his future in cross country looks bright. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/09/2025-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY BHAT.VIZUALA-BRADY HATMAKER)
