THP Trooper allegedly comes across same white pick-up truck twice in same day

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- On Tuesday morning, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was dispatched to I-75 in Campbell County about a property damage crash at Mile Marker 133.8, near Caryville Exit 134.
The incident was about a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and a white pick up truck that left the scene of the crash at approximately 5:30am. Trooper Michael Lowe learned from the CMV driver that he had dash cam footage, and the trooper received it from the driver at 11:14am.
Later the same day at 1:35pm, Trooper Lowe was dispatched to a crash where a white pick-up truck was struck by a CMV on I-75. Upon arrival on scene, the truck that was damaged was the same truck in the dash cam video sent by the CMV driver earlier in the day, according to the trooper’s narrative in the warrant.
The driver of the white pick up truck, 58-year old Sherman Riffey of Caryville, allegedly stated that he was hit by a red CMV. There was allegedly no red paint transfer from a red CMV, based on the narrative.
Riffey, of 151 Falin Lane-Caryville, was placed under arrest for a false report and leaving the scene of an accident.
A court date of Sep. 9 awaits Riffey who remains housed this morning in the Campbell County Jail without a bond. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/04/2025-6AM)
