Will bring accountability back to the badge

CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- Darryl Chapman is announcing his candidacy for Campbell County Sheriff. Chapman, who has more law enforcement than anyone else in the county, is committed to bringing accountability back to the badge.
“At this time in my career, it is time to put my experience to work in the highest law enforcement position in the county,” he said. Chapman has 37 years of experience having served as a detective, undercover agent, public information officer, patrol officer, dispatcher and jailer.
Chapman’s campaign will focus on:
– Stopping jail deaths and overdoses. “I will work to make sure these stop. One death, one overdose is one too many,” Chapman said. “Campbell County had dozens of overdoses in 2023 and two deaths in 2024. If drugs can’t be kept out of the jail, how are we supposed to believe they can be kept out of the community?”
-Having a presence in the community. Patrol cars will be visible throughout the county. “We need officers in position for a quick response. Crime victims should not have to wait for assistance or be forced to file a report over the phone,” he said.
– Keeping Campbell County Schools safe is a priority. “The law says School Resource Officers need to be POST (Peace Officer Standard Training) certified. Under my watch, they will be. Our children have the right to be safe at school,” he said.
-Accountability. “The nature of an elected office is to serve the people. I will be available to the citizens of Campbell County. I will work for them,” Chapman said. “My office will be transparent. Questions from the county will be welcomed with accurate, comprehensive information not a stack of statistics.”
“I want to restore trust with the community,” Chapman said. “I want to be the people’s sheriff.
“I am dedicated to serving the people of Campbell County and working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.”
