LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The LaFollette City Council met Monday afternoon for its monthly workshop.
The city is looking for a new attorney, after City Attorney Reid Troutman resigned. Troutman is now the attorney for LUB. The council will select from three candidates. The candidates are Steve Hurst, Dail Cantrell and Karen Crutchfield.
In administration matters, the council discussed the annual employee health renewal with John Finley of E.E. Hill & Son Insurance. The city’s health insurance is going up by two percent in January. An event permit for a worship walk was discussed. Sandra Thurman told the council that she feels led by the Lord to do the walk on Tennessee Avenue. She has requested to do the walk on Nov. 29 from 4 pm to 5 pm so she does not interfere with any of the businesses located on that street. The city wants to add 14 additional cameras to the city. The cameras will be placed at the walking trail behind city hall, three cameras behind the parking lot behind city hall, splash pad, the ball field, the police impound area, three cameras at the RV park, Tank Springs and the community center. The cost of the cameras is $6,400 which will be almost covered by a PEP Conservation Grant. The city will need to contribute an additional $1,700 to cover the complete cost.
The council discussed having a non-disclosure agreement for the city employees. Councilman Chuck Queener feels the city needs the agreement to prevent information from being released early. Councilman Mark Hoskins questioned if the agreement had been reviewed by an attorney, City Administrator Stan Foust stated that it had been. Hoskins then questioned if it had been reviewed by MTAS and Foust said it had not been. Hoskins requested that MTAS review it before the council takes any action on it.
At next week’s monthly meeting, the council will vote on promoting Christian Mullins to a full time patrolman in the police department effective Nov. 15 as well as promoting James Lay to a full time operator in the public works department.
Three resolutions will be on the agenda for approval at the monthly meeting beginning with Resolution 2025-19 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in the PEP Risk Management Pool (drivers’ safety) Loss Control Matching Grant Program. Next is Resolution 2025-20 administrative services for Community Development Partners (State of Tennessee fiscal year 2025 parks and recreation program) and then Resolution 2025-21 engineering services for Ardurra Group (State of Tennessee FY 2025 parks and recreation program), both of the resolutions are for services at the proposed sports complex.
The city will host Dark in the Park Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/28/2025-6AM)
