JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Cougar baseball squad welcomed the Flames of Maryville Apostolic Christian Academy to Brown-Archer Field on Friday night, and everyone that made the walk up “the Hill” to cheer on the Cougars was treated to an instant classic.

In the bottom of the second inning, Caden Idles started the scoring for the Cougars with a 2 RBI double to left field.

Rylan Rice on the bump for the Orange-and-Blue would start off dealing, tallying three innings of no-hit ball.

Cooper McQuitty walked, stole second, then stole third along with scoring the winning run.

However, Apostolic answered in emphatic fashion. Maryville ended up scoring five runs in the top of the fourth to lead the Cougars 5-2.

Maryville Apostolic tacked on another run in the fifth to lead 6-2.

Campbell however, wouldn’t quit. In the bottom half of the fifth, Rylan Rice whacked a RBI-single to left field, scoring Idles.

In the Cougar sixth inning, Keegan Nelson sent a chopper out toward right field, bringing home Dylan Ford to cut the deficit to 6-4.

The Orange-and-Blue had to rally in the seventh inning, and they did exactly that. Eli Lawson began the inning with a line-drive single to left. Koalton Cupp then brought home Lawson with a screamer out toward left field. Now, the Cougars were down one.

Cupp stole second and third. Then a wild pitch allowed him to score, knotting the game at six. Cooper McQuitty walked, stole second, then stole third.

Cougar first year coach Adam Ellison visits with WLAF’s Jake Monday, a former Cougar.

A dropped third strike which rolled to the backstop allowed McQuitty to speed to home plate and just narrowly avoid the tag to give the Cougars their third win by a score of 7-6.

Campbell’s completed comeback gave Head Coach Adam Ellison his third win on the Hill, already surpassing last seasons’ win total. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/24/2025-6AM)
