JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was the final home games for Campbell in the year 2024, as Oneida came to town to battle the Lady Cougars and Cougars.
The varsity girls game, as usual, was up first; no JV contest. Oneida came in to the game on a four game losing streak, and the Lady Cougars looked to bounce back after their first loss of the season to the #2 ranked Heritage Lady Mountaineers on Monday at Maryville.
It was a bit of a slow start on the offensive side of the ball for both teams. At halftime, Campbell led 20-9.
The offense picked up for the Orange-and-Blue in the third and fourth quarters, mostly due to Bella Lester’s stellar play.
Also, Destiny Rutherford did a solid job of filling the role of Lacey Pemberton, who was out with illness.

When the final horn sounded, Campbell won its final basketball game ahead of 10 days without a game by a final score of 57-39. The Lady Cougars improve to 10 & 1.
Again, the offense was fueled by Bella Lester who racked up an impressive 21 points. Carley Kitts scored nine. Saylor Hutcheson totaled seven points. Six points came from Jayden Kitts while Preslee Chapman finished with five points. Reagan Davis, Destiny Rutherford, and Aleah Woodson contributed three points a piece.
Lester was named the Mills Door and More “Player of the Game”.
As for the Cougars, it was another slow start, but, fast finish.
After one quarter, Campbell was ahead of Oneida 16-14. That lead continued to grow throughout the game.
Campbell’s offense was headed by Luke Browning, your Mills Door and More “Player of the Game”, and Gavin Cox.
Browning scored 26 points, and Cox totaled 16, on the way to Campbell’s 74-46 victory. Browning also had a vicious one-hand slam which made up two of his 26 points.

Unofficially, also in the scoring column for the Cougars was Gavin Owens who scored eight points. Will Croley was right behind with seven points. Brady Hatmaker had a big six points off the bench. Sam Sexton totaled four points. Keegan Nelson scored three. Caden Heatherly and Jake Hatmaker finished with two points a piece. Tyler Perkins, Hunter Dotson, and Braydon Graham all played but did not score.
The Cougars record is now 7 & 4. Campbell has won three-straight games.
Up next for the Cougars is the Bell County Christmas County Classic at Pineville, Kentucky. The Cougars take on the Jackson County Generals out of McKee, Kentucky, which is near London. Tip time is Friday, December 20, at 8:30pm. Campbell will then play on Saturday and in its final tourney game on Monday.
As for the Lady Cougars, after Christmas, they travel to Pensacola, Florida, for the Innisfree Hotels Beach Basketball Classic. Campbell battles Barren County, Kentucky, which is located at Glasgow. That’s a 12:30pm EST tip on Friday Dec. 27, for the Lady Cougars and Lady Trojans.
