JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Cougars are back on Reynolds Field following a short hiatus at the conclusion of spring practice. Summer workouts have begun for the Orange-and-Blue.
“We had a lot of guys develop during spring practice and over the offseason, both in our weight room program and with just understanding the game of football and how we do things at Campbell County,” said Coach Ownbey. “I’ve liked how our kids have stepped up in the spring and early summer, and I feel like our senior leadership is growing. We just gotta keep getting tougher and getting better each day,” Ownbey continued.

It’s a new-look staff for Campbell as Tyler Drummer begins a new role as offensive coordinator after previously serving as the wide receivers coach. Bryan Lee, a completely new face to The Hill, will take over the defense. Also joining the staff this season are Skylar Kirby and Tyler Kirby. Skylar is the head coach at Jacksboro Middle School, and Tyler has spent time coaching at JMS as well. Both will coach the offensive and defensive line. Hunter White, CJ Allen, and Chris Mays all have returned to the Orange-and-Blue’s staff.

“We are working on putting in some new stuff, and the most important thing is teaching them how to do it and do it right. Once we learn the proper technique and where we need to be positioned at, then we can tweak things and work on effort,” Ownbey mentioned.

The mantra for the Cougar Football program is and has always been “Defending the Hill.” The Cougars did this literally during Wednesday’s conditioning. The Orange-and-Blue sprinted, ran backwards, and crawled up “The Hill.” “This place is very rich in tradition. The Hill is a great place to play football, and we want to defend it and that tradition. This is our place,” said Coach O.
