Governors 62 Campbell 59
By Clayton Carroll
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- William Blount came to Brown Gym at Campbell County High School on Tuesday and appeared as if they would govern the Cougars. Blount led 41-25 at the end of the first half.
However, the Cougars would not let William Blount rule them in the second half.
Leading the charge for Campbell was senior Luke Browning. Seventeen of Browning’s 22 points came in the third and fourth quarters. Four of those points came through Browning going up to the rim and slamming it home with dunks, his first in front of the home crowd.
Unfortunately, Campbell’s attempt to start 1-0 fell just short. William Blount sneaked by with a 62-59 win.Â
The entire Cougar squad played together on Tuesday. Head Coach Ernie “Mac” Clawson was pleased with his team’s effort. He liked their grit and their want to win. He said that his team needs to clean up their missed layups and free throws. Something that will be an emphasis in preparing for Oliver Springs on Thursday.
Luke Browning, the Cougars’ Mills Door and More player of the game, was tops in scoring with 22 points, Will Croley scored double digits as well with 14. Gavin Cox totaled nine points, Jake Hatmaker racked up eight points. Gavin Owens scored four points, and Keegan Nelson rounded out the scoring column with two points.
The Cougars travel to battle the Bobcats on Thursday at Oliver Springs with a tip-off time of 7:30pm. Josh Parker, “Voice of the Cougars” sends the action over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network consisting of radio AM 1450, FM 100.9, TV Channel 1089, 1450wlaf.com, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, Alexa, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch.
