JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Campbell hosted the Hurricanes of Morristown East on Friday, and things started off well for the Cougars, to say the least.
The Cougars struck first with Gavin Owens capping off a 77 yard drive with a three yard touchdown run. It was 6-0 in favor of the Orange-and-Blue following a missed PAT.
However, the Canes struck back with a touchdown in the second quarter. Later in the first half, East was driving, and it appeared as if it would tack on another six points, but Cougar Freshman Max Boshears timed a pass perfectly and picked it off.
The score remained 7-6 at halftime in favor of the Hurricanes.
Late in the third quarter Mo’ East had a long drive of their own, extending their lead to 13-6.
Luke Lindsay and Gavin Owens connected on a 55 yard pass, catch and run to put the Cougars down one, 13-12. They went for two but failed.
East would get one more touchdown on the board. The Cougars were faced with a 19-12 deficit. Unfortunately, they could not overcome it, falling to the Hurricanes.
There’s one game left in the 2024 season, and that is a senior night tussle with Oak Ridge on Friday. The Cougars look for their first victory against the Wildcats since 2013.
