Campbell Head Coach Taylor Ownbey was all-state at South Forsyth High at Cumming, Georgia.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It’s game week, and the Campbell County Cougars continue making preparations to take on the Lenoir City Panthers come Friday night on Panther Field. “It’s been a great journey (since becoming head coach in April), the kids have been great, and I’ve really enjoyed being a part of this program,” said first-year Campbell Head Football Coach Taylor Ownbey.

“Our seniors have done a good job of leading with Jake Lawson leading the way offensive line wise and defensive line as well.  On offense we’ll rely on skill players like Austin Jordan, Sam Sexton, Timmy Gibson, Kevin Moore, Braydon Graham and Eli Lawson,” said Coach O.

Coach Ownbey lights up when he talks about senior and first year quarterback Eli Lawson. “He’s made just great strides after three years of baseball and no football,” said Coach Ownbey.

Coach Ownbey adds that defensively Landon Chadwell and Jordan Perkins are returning linebackers. He calls Jack Stooksbury a young bright spot who will see playing time at tight end and at linebacker.

“A lot of those skill guys will play in the secondary, and Josh Ramsey is going to play a lot for us on the D line. We gotta lot of guys who are going to get a lot of playing time. It’s going to take a total team effort,” said Ownbey.

Special teams include Punter Tyler Kettlehake while Paxton Wormsley and Drew Croley will handle most of the kicking. Timmy Gibson and Austin Jordan will likely be on the returns for Campbell along with Sam Sexton.

“We’re gong to try to be 50-50 on offense with the run and the pass.  Coach Mark Romero does a great job with the offense,” said Coach O.

The regular season begins on August 22 at Lenoir City.
