MARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- Campbell, 5 and 4, traveled to Heritage to face the Mountaineers, 5 and 3. Both the Cougars and Mountaineers were fresh off district wins on Friday. Watch all the fun of Cougar Basketball HERE.

Heritage started off the game hot. The Mountaineers blitzed out to a 22-11 lead.

The Cougars came back, and trailed at halftime 30-28.

In the third and fourth quarter, it was a back-and-forth battle. Campbell would make a little 5-0 run, and Heritage would answer right back. This happened on multiple occasions. With 10 seconds to go in the game, the Cougars were facing a 2 point deficit.

Luke Browning missed a five foot fade away, and Keegan Nelson came flying in for the put back to tie the game at 62 and send it to overtime. It was Nelson’s only points of the night, but those two points were arguably the biggest points of the contest.

In overtime, it was a defensive scrum. The Orange-and-Blue outscored the Mountaineers 4-2 to give Campbell the 66-64 win.

Campbell County’s leading scorer and Mills Door and More Player of the Game was Gavin Cox. He had an incredible night on the court totaling 25 points. Luke Browning also played extremely well scoring 17. Jake Hatmaker had one of his strongest performances of the season with 10 points. Will Croley, battling foul trouble all night, still finished with seven points. Gavin Owens totaled five points, and Keegan Nelson rounded out the scoring with two critical points to tie the game forcing overtime.

The Cougars, now 6 and 4, shift gears to the 4 and 2 Oneida Indians tonight at Brown Gym. The Cougars-and-Indians begin play at 7:30 PM.
