JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was the Cougars’ district basketball opener on Tuesday night as the Orange-and-Blue hosted Knoxville Central.

To say that the Cougars started off fast would be a vast understatement. Campbell blitzed out to an 11-0 lead over the Bobcats.

Campbell County, led in large part by 18 first half points from Luke Browning, never saw a deficit, leading Central at the halftime break 36-19.

In basketball, there are two halves for a reason. The first one was all Campbell. The second would be all Central.

The Cougars collapsed in the second half, allowing the Bobcats to get back in the game. Trailing 51-50 with 3 seconds to go, Central’s Parker Hampton drilled a free throw line jumper, giving Central the 52-51 comeback victory.

The leading scorer for Campbell was the Mills Door and More Player of the Game Luke Browning. Luke scored 21 points in total on Tuesday. Behind him was Gavin Cox with 12 points. Gavin Owens totaled seven points. Keegan Nelson scored five points. Jake Hatmaker and Will Croley had three each.

Campbell is now 4 and 4 on the season, 0 and 1 in district play with a trip to Karns up next.
