LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Members of the Community Choir have been rehearsing for weeks and invite you to their Christmas Cantata this weekend. “This choir goes back to Geneva Gearing’s school choirs at La Follette High School, and it continues to this day,” said Gail Stout Brown, choir organizer.

David Shepherd, of Geneva Gearing’s La Follette High School Choir, is directing the cantata.

Performances are set for Saturday at 7pm at the La Follette Church of God and 9am Sunday at the La Follette Methodist Church. Upwards of 40 singers and musicians welcome you to this special weekend of Christmas music.

Members of the Community Choir range in age from the 20s to near 90 years old.

The core members of the Community Choir reconnected for the first Best of Times La Follette High School reunion, and the group has continued performing since at reunions and other special occasions, according to Brown. “The number of former LHS students in the choir began thinning, so we began recruiting others in the community,” said Brown. As a result, graduates from other high schools have joined the group with seven different denominations being represented.

“The comradery is wonderful, and we’ll have several solos plus a men’s trio as part of the performances,” said Brown. Solos will be sung by Sandi Eubanks, Sherry Powell and Amanda Sammons along with the men’s trio comprised of Roger Hammac, Rick Miller and David Shepherd. Shepherd is also directing the performances, and Glenn Rasmussen is the pianist.

Seven different denominations are represented in the choir.

Admission to the performances is free. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-12/13/2024-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
