The Campbell County Senior Citizens Center in LaFollette was recognized at Tuesday’s County Commission meeting. Senior Center Director Butch Kohlmeyer and administrative assistant Pat Orta accepted the proclamation. Senior Center staff were present for the recognition as well.

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- At its Tuesday meeting, the Campbell County Commission recognized the Campbell County Senior Centers in LaFollette and in Jellico as part of the commission’s “Campbell County First, service above politics initiative.”

Jellico’s Senior Center and its staff were recognized first, with County Mayor Jack Lynch reading a proclamation before presenting it to center director Rebecca Ivey.

“These guys in Jellico do a wonderful job over there; they do wonderful work. This commission feels like this is definitely a needed thing in Jellico,” Lynch said

The Jellico Senior Center in Jellico has been providing activities for seniors since 1975.

Jellico’s Senior Center was recognized by County Commissioners on Tuesday evening. Center Director Rebecca Ivey accepts the proclamation from County Mayor Jack Lynch.

“The director Rebecca Ivey and the staff provide daily activities for the seniors, and they also provide meals for citizens to come in and eat and enjoy the company of others, and they also prepare meals for those who can’t get out to the center. The Jellico Senior Center also provides daily activities for fellowship, board games and exercise classes, to weekly Bible Study classes on Wednesdays and Bingo every Friday…they do many things for the seniors, but most importantly they give them a place of their own to enjoy meals and a variety of activities that they can enjoy together,” Lynch said.

The Senior Center in LaFollette was recognized next for all it does for the community.

Senior Center Director Butch Kohlmeyer and Senior Center Administrative Assistant Pat Orta accepted the proclamation, along with LaFollette Senior Center staff.

County Mayor Lynch read the proclamation, saying that the center had been “providing services to seniors for over 50 years.”

“We are honored to recognize the Senior Center at LaFollette, the director Butch Kohlmeyer and staff provide daily activities and an atmosphere of togetherness. The senior center provides a daily lunch menu for seniors to come in daily to eat and enjoy the company of others. They also provide meals for those who cannot make it out to the center. They provide daily activities from Bingo to line dancing, they also provide Silver Sneakers exercise classes and Thursday is Karaoke, The senior center does many things, but most importantly gives them a place of their own and provides activities that they can enjoy together,” Mayor Lynch said.

Kohlmeyer thanked the county commission and all the help they provided.

“We love the senior citizens too, especially Miss Beverly, we appreciate you all so much,” Kohlmeyer said.

Senior Center Administrative Assistant Pat Orta said the center would continue to provide evidence-based classes to the seniors on topics such as health issues and scams.

She thanked the staff that work tirelessly at the center to make meals and keep the center going.

“We are one big family,” Orta said.

Commissioner Beverly Hall spoke briefly, saying it was “not only an honor, but a pleasure” to represent the senior center.

“I see how hard they work over there for the seniors of our county and if you have the opportunity to go see the senior center of LaFollette and see what they have done with the money, you would be amazed.
