JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- County Commissioners passed a resolution on Monday evening in support of Campbell County’s Veterans and the Veterans Affairs office.

It is a statement of support for Campbell County Veterans and their families in their filing of claims at no charge to veterans. The resolution became effective upon its passing by the commission and also stated that “as long as there is a veteran in Campbell County, there will be a Veteran’s Affairs office where the service is expert, the veterans are local and the price is always zero.”

This resolution was requested by the county’s veteran’s affairs director Shane Prater at last week’s workshop.

“Shane came to us last week and requested this; there is some stuff going on at the state, this resolution just states that the commission will always fund veterans affairs for the veteran citizens in Campbell County, so this resolution is going to adopt that, it has been approved on Shane’s side,” Commissioner Rusty Orick said.

Commission Chairman Johnny Bruce read the resolution into record.

The resolution states that the veteran’s affairs office is “vital to our veterans” and that the “Campbell County Commission will stand behind our veterans and their families, and will help all veterans and their families file claims at no cost, and the veterans affairs office will continue to support our veterans and their families at no cost to them, providing support that is needed,” Bruce read.

Orick said that this was what the county commission had always done and the resolution did not change anything but rather put the commitment of the county to veterans in writing in the form of a resolution.

“Hopefully the rest of the commission in the future will follow suit,” Orick said.

In other business, commissioners approved for the “county finance department to send a letter to department heads requesting an inventory on items for insurance.”  A list of surplus items for the Campbell County Highway Department and the Campbell County Sanitation was also approved.

Commissioners also appointed Commissioner Erica Simpson to the Solid Waste Board.

A surplus 2021 Dodge Durango was transferred from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Department to the Highway Department.

Commissioners also approved a Campbell County TNTP service agreement involving the school Literacy Grant. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/18/2026-6AM)
