JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Joseph Roach approached the Campbell County Commission during Monday’s workshop to ask for any assistance they could provide the volunteer fire department in purchasing equipment. Roach also was at the meeting to thank the county for its assistance with the recent securing of $5,000 in funding from the Joint Economic Community Development Board.

“We appreciate any support that you offer, and we thank you,” Roach told commissioners.

County Mayor Jack Lynch addressed the commission, saying he had been speaking with Roach about the fire department and that “They were very short on equipment, specifically air packs.”

“We talked to the East Tennessee Development District and hope to apply for several grants when they come open in the spring. I’ve also worked with a fire department outside the county, and they have promised us three used ones and the JECDB has promised $5,000, which should buy four or more air packs,” Lynch said.

Roach told the commission that the fire department was trying to get caught up on purchasing drastically needed safety equipment and had recently purchased four brand new sets of turnout gear at a cost of $9,000. He also reported the recent acquisition of a fire engine as well.

“We drove to Orange County, Florida, and I drove a fire engine back and we are proud of what we are trying to do with building the department. The air packs were our biggest need, and we so appreciate that donation,” Roach said.

The Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Department serves around 6,000 people, as well as responds to fires along a stretch of Interstate 75.

“These guys do a tremendous service to the Ridgewood Community, and we need to help them as best we can,” said Commission chair Johnny Bruce.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/13/2024-6AM)
