Bella battles to the bucket as Lady Cougar Bella Lester shoots and scores for Campbell.
GULF BREEZE, FL (WLAF) -The Campbell Lady Cougars built their largest lead, nine, at the front end of the fourth quarter, and then the air came out of the balloon. On day one of the three day Innisfree Hotels Beach Basketball Classic, Eastside of Taylors, South Carolina, hung around and then stormed back for the win.
In the second half, Campbell went from up 28-19 to down 38 to 35 and was handed a loss on an afternoon when they simply let one slip away. Though there were eight ties and several lead changes in what was a close game throughout, Campbell’s shooting did them in as the Lady Cougars managed only eight points in the last quarter.

Destiny Rutherford eyes the mark for Campbell during Wednesday afternoon’s game.
A 19 point fourth quarter by the Lady Eagles served them well even though Campbell still had chances in the closing seconds. The game was tied at 10 after one with the Lady Cougars posting seven points to Eastside’s six in the second quarter. Campbell was ahead 17-16 at the half and held Eastside to three third quarter points as the Lady Cougars were in front 27-19 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Eastside came to life outscoring Campbell 19-8 in the last quarter. With the game tied for the final time, at 35, Eastside made its free throws and improved to 7 & 0 with the 38-35 victory.
Carley Kitts 13 points paced Campbell while Lacey Pemberton had six followed by three each from Preslee Chapman, Reagan Davis, Saylor Hutcheson and Bella Lester. Jayden Kitts and Destiny Rutherford had two each.

It’s a top of the key three for Preslee Chapman pushing the Lady Cougars lead out to 17-13.
Campbell drops to 11 & 2 with a lunch time tip set for Thursday. The Lady Cougars take on the South Paulding Spartans of Douglasville, Georgia, at 12:30pm.
