The City of La Follette’s regular monthly meeting is moved to Tue., Sep. 10, 5:30pm, at City Hall

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- City leaders look for the long awaited resurfacing of Beech Street to take place before the cold weather season arrives. At the Tue., Sep. 10, regular council meeting, a motion is expected to be made to accept the bid for the Beech Street resurfacing project.

“We’ve waited on this since 2018,” said City Administrator Stan Foust. The project was due to start over five years ago but got delayed due to Covid.

The paving project runs along Beech Street from Jacksboro Pike to East Avenue, a length 1.63 miles. “If we can get it pushed through with TDOT, after September 4th, can we get it done before weather turns?” Foust asked.

Contractors agreed that it was doable.

At last week’s City of La Follette workshop, Recreation Director Johnny Byrge submitted his resignation to the LaFollette City Council. Byrge’s last day on the job will Aug. 31. In the September 10 regular monthly meeting, the council will vote on Chris Smith being appointed interim Recreation Director. They will also vote on Jeremy Morris being promoted to laborer.

Amanda Maynard with the Home Grant was present to discuss bids for a new home and a new mobile home. There is currently $200,000 left in grant funds and the council is looking at options on how to spend the funds.

Ordinance 2024-08 amending the personnel policy and Ordinance 2024-09 amending Title 5 Municipal Finance and Taxation Section 505 will have first reading. Resolution 2024-12 authorizing the city to participate in the PEP Risk Management Pool matching grant program will be on the agenda for approval.

The city will have a food truck event on Fri., Sept. 6, from 5-8 pm, behind city hall. Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church has applied for an event permit, the council will vote on the permit at the September 10 meeting.

The regular monthly meeting for the city has been rescheduled from Sept. 3 to Sept. 10. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/02/2024-6AM)
