The annual City of La Follette Easter Egg Hunt is Thu., 5pm, at Liberty Park

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- At yesterday afternoon’s City of LaFollette Council workshop, City Administrator Stan Foust began the meeting with the announcement of several upcoming events. First was the announcement of the Easter Egg Hunt for this Thu., April 2, 5pm, at Liberty Park. The Dogwood Trail is scheduled to open on Thu., April 9, 10am, during a ceremony on the street at 207 South Tennessee Avenue. The City of LaFollette Food Truck Rally is slated for Tue., April 7 and Tue., May 5 from 5pm to 9pm. The Friday Frenzy 2026 is scheduled for June 5 and Oct. 9 from 5pm to 9pm. Rounding out the announcements was the Veterans Banner Dedication Ceremony scheduled for May in front of the municipal building at 207 South Tennessee Avenue.
At next week’s monthly meeting, the council will vote on an event permit for The Walk for Victims Rights at Sergeants Park on Wed., April 22, starting at 5pm and ending at 9pm. Yesterday afternoon, the council agreed to let the LaFollette Methodist Church host a Cross Walk on Good Friday at 3pm. Officers with the LaFollette Police Department will provide an escort for the walk.
Three promotions will be voted on at next week’s meeting. The promotion of Jonthan Norris to a full-time entry level firefighter with EMT-A effective April 18 is first, promoting Robert Cobb to a full time sergeant with the police department effective April 18 is next and finally promoting Tim Huckaby to a full time laborer in the recreation department effective April 18.
Foust explained to the council he would like to apply for an Outdoors Public Gathering grant for the Tank Springs area ($25,000 maximum, 100% funded) which is near the north end of North Tennessee Avenue. Foust then discussed a solid waste grant for the public works department. The grant would be used to purchase a new garbage truck and approximately 3,000 canisters for city residents. The cost of the truck is approximately $500,000. The truck would lift the canisters at the residence and empty them into the truck. The grant could be a 50/50 match or 75/25 match. The council will vote on applying for the grants at the next meeting.
Parks and Recreation Director Chris Smith spoke to the council about the possibility of turning the Linden Park sports field into a dog park. Foust told the council they could look for grants to assist with the conversion of the park. The field, once, decades ago, was home of the Linden Little League Baseball Park, is currently unused. Smith will look at the cost and come back for further discussion with the council.
The last two items on the agenda to be voted on at the next meeting are Ordinance 2026-02 amending the City of LaFollette Code with respect to waste disposal from construction, demolition, and repairs to property will have a first reading. The ordinance requires contractors to have a dumpster and a port-a-potty on site. Next for a vote will be Resolution 2026-04 amending the 2025-26 budget. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/31/2026-6AM)
