LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- McDonald’s is coming to LaFollette. The City of LaFollette and the international fast food favorite have been in extended discussions about the project, according to City of LaFollette Administrator Stan Foust.

“We (the city), myself and the codes director have been working on this for a while,” Foust said in an exclusive interview with WLAF yesterday.

The site has been surveyed and core drilled. The next phase entails plans being brought before the planning commission at the Dec. 19 meeting.

McDonald’s will build a new restaurant where the old Regions Bank once was, the former jr. high and high school location for those of a certain age. Located next to First Baptist Church the restaurant will be within walking distance from multiple downtown businesses.

“This is exciting for downtown,” Foust said. “People who work in downtown and live up the valley will now have another (dining) option.”

While there is not a definitive timeline for the project, the demolition and site plans will be presented to the planning commission next week. Weather will be a large factor in the construction process.

The city has been communicating extensively with the McDonald’s Corporation about the construction of the 3,700 square foot building complete with a two-lane drive- thru.

This is not the first time the corporation has tried to move to LaFollette.

On at least two other occasions there were attempts made but the deals “fell through,” Foust said.

Another attempt was made because they wanted “to locate in the downtown area,” he said.

There are hopes that other chains will move to LaFollette after this.
