LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)-Last night, the LaFollette City Council met for the monthly meeting. At last month’s workshop comp time was discussed. City Administrator Stan Foust reported to the council during the workshop that comp time has become an issue and recommended the city stop utilizing comp time. Last night the council voted to discontinue utilizing comp time.

Four promotions were on the agenda last night. First up were promotions in the fire department where Gage Jones and Ernesto Rodriguez were promoted to full-time fire fighters at a salary of $31,077.47 each. Next was police department promotions beginning with promoting Megan McCloud to a full-time police clerk at a salary of $29,993.60, then Austin Tindell to a full-time patrol officer at a salary of $35,596.91. All promotions were approved with an effective date of July 15. Calan Dixon was hired in the recreation department as a full-time laborer effective July 15.

The council appointed Dewayne Solomon and Elwood Bailey to the E-911 board. Solomon received three yes votes and one no from Councilman Chuck Queener. Bailey received two yes votes and two no votes from Queener and Councilman Phillip Farmer, Mayor Cliff Jennings broke the tie.

Three event permits were approved. Two groups want to use the rear parking lot at city hall for a prayer meeting, Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, and Stand in the Gap. Bill Claiborne was present at the workshop to give the council the necessary insurance policy for the Tally Town Festival, so his permit could move forward. The festival is required to have an insurance policy due to serving alcohol at the event. He also requested the city close Beech Street, beginning at the library and continuing to Depot Street where the July 29 event will be held.

A bid from Highway Markings for guardrails at Sergeant Park, 12th Street and Rose Hill in the amount of $12,833.75 was approved. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 7/6/2023- 6AM)
