Traffic light issues at the intersections at Lowe’s, El Pueblito and Walgreens discussed

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Yesterday afternoon, the LaFollette City Council met for the monthly workshop.
The council discussed the traffic light issues at the intersections at Lowe’s, El Pueblito and Walgreens. The issue appears to be a timing issue with the lights and traffic flow. The city has spoken with Adura about the issues. The issue can be resolved for $340,000. This would provide the internal devices needed to regulate the traffic more evenly. However, a traffic study will need to be conducted before the process begins and could take approximately six months.
The council will vote on two fire department items at Tuesday night’s meeting. The fire item is the approval of a bid for a heart monitor from Zoll Medical for $51,000. Then the council will vote on terminating Johnny Seal, a 36 year employee with department.
City Administrator Stan Foust discussed amending an ordinance that pertains to remodels and demolitions. Foust stated that the ordinance needs to be amended to include language about requiring dumpsters and porta johns. City Attorney Karen Crutchfield will work on the ordinance and should have it ready by January for the council.
Two beer permits will be on the agenda for approval, Norris Lake Wine and Spirits and Lyons Liquor Locker. The council will also vote on approving 27 beer permits. This is the annual renewal.
An event permit will be on Tuesday’s agenda for approval for Atlas Lending to host a toy drive. However, there was some confusion about the proposed location. Foust told the council he would confirm the location prior to Tuesday’s meeting.
Troy Link spoke to the council about the possibility of incorporating a multi-use sports pad at the new sports complex. Link told the council the pad would cost somewhere between $35,000-$50,000 and could be used for many different sports and events. The council discussed the possibility of sending the information to the engineers of the sports complex to look at a possible location and the feasibility of a multi-use sports pad.
Mayor Scotty Kitts requested the council partner with the United Rare Earths food drive and donate $3,000 to drive. Council members questioned what non-profit is in charge of receiving the money and where exactly the money is going. Kitts was unable to answer the questions but stated he would get the information prior to Tuesday’s meeting.
Councilman Wayne Kitts told the council he had been asked why former Mayor Cliff Jennings has not been Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade. Jennings has served the city for 24 years, Kitts stated, and said he felt that Jennings needs to be Grand Marshall at some point. Foust pointed out that the city does not choose the Grand Marshall and the city does not sit on the parade committee even though it is a city parade. Foust stated that historically someone from each department has served on the committee, however that has not been the case as of recent. Foust told the council he would have a conversation with Kelly Jo Wright who organizes the parade about the issue.
Ordinance 2025-24 and Resolution 2025-24 will be on the agenda for approval.
Foust announced the Christmas Tree Lighting will be on Tue., Dec. 2 at 6:30 pm, the annual Christmas Parade on Sat., Dec. 6, at 6 pm, and the employee Christmas Dinner is set for Tue., Dec. 9, at 6:30 pm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-11/25/2025-6AM)
