CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- On Thursday afternoon, the Caryville Municipal Planning Commission met for its monthly meeting.
In unfinished business, the planning commission discussed the rezoning of property on Bruce Gap Road. Previously the planning commission approved the rezoning, but the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen needed to approve it before it could be finalized. At last month’s meeting, the board tabled the item due to having unanswered questions about the proposed development on the property. At that time, it was requested the aldermen submit their questions by this past Friday so the planning commission would have time to answer them prior to the upcoming of the board of mayor and aldermen on Monday night. However, at yesterday afternoon’s meeting, Mayor Beth Lawson reported no questions had been submitted, and the deadline had passed. The board of mayor and aldermen is slated to discuss the topic on Monday night at the 6pm regular monthly meeting of the Caryville Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Also discussed was whether the coordinating committee meeting to discuss the urban growth boundary had been scheduled. After a brief discussion the planning commission requested that Mayor Beth Lawson or Town Administrator Craig Bennett contact the county mayor to start the process in getting the meeting scheduled.
As for new business, the planning commission approved the annual planning work program for 2026-27 with the East Tennessee Development District. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-02/06/2026-6AM)
