Regular monthly meeting was held Monday

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Alderman met Monday night. The board had a second, and final, reading of Ordinance 2025-06 which establishes the position of Town Administrator. The ordinance to hire an administrator passed.
Fonzie Evans, the widow of David Evans who passed in 2022, spoke to the board about renaming a portion of Elkins Road near Asbury Park. Evans told the board she would like to see it renamed as “David’s Way”. She talked to the board about how her late husband contributed a lot to the area through his work with heavy equipment. Mayor David Chambers told Evans he wasn’t sure it this could be done or not, but that he would work with Alderman Lloyd Lawson and see what could be done. Chambers told Evans that he would follow up with her in a few days.
Resolution 2025-03 authorizing the town to participate in the Public Entity Partners Safety Partners Matching Grant Program was approved. The town received the grant for $3,000.
The board approved an invoice from Cannon and Cannon for $22,050 for phase II of the Caryville Cares Playground.
Purchasing 50 tons of road salt from Compass Minerals America in the amount of $7,257.50 was approved.
The town has a CD that is set to mature on Sept. 11, the board voted to renew the CD with Builtwell Bank. As of today the CD has earned $27,421, after a brief discussion the board voted to put the $27,421 into an account with the Local Government Investment Pool. The money placed in the account can be accessed at any time without a penalty and will draw interest until such time it is needed. The money will be earmarked for paving projects.
Ordinance No. 2025-07 to modify Title 18 water and sewers of the Caryville Municipal Code by removing all references of the repealed Tennessee rule 1200-04-14 and replacing said references with 0400-40-14 to which the repealed rules were transferred had a second reading.
Resolution 2025-04 amending the Urban Growth Boundary Map was approved. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-09/09/2025-6AM)
