Carolyn Annette Walters Crowe, 88, died Tuesday morning, March 10 at Morning Pointe, Powell. Carolyn was born in Vonore, TN and moved to LaFollette as a child, where her father established Walters Funeral Home and she lived with her family “over the shop.”
Carolyn had a fine soprano voice and often participated in music events and even won a competition or two. She graduated from LaFollette High School in 1954 and attended both Carson-Newman College and UT Knoxville. On one particular evening out with friends at the Richie Kreme, she met Roger Crowe, recently graduated from Tennessee Tech, and they married in October 1957.
Carolyn always loved to travel, and she happily followed Roger to various jobs in Charlotte, Miami, and finally Chattanooga where they raised their two daughters. For many years she worked as a pre-school teacher and volunteered with her church VBS and her daughters’ Girl Scout troops. In 1983, Carolyn and Roger returned to LaFollette, where they were both active in the LaFollette United Methodist Church, and where Carolyn remained until her move to Morning Pointe in late 2024.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Wheeler and Mildred Walters of LaFollette, and in 2017, by her husband, Roger Crowe. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Marjorie Rutledge, of Gray, TN; two daughters, Rev. Brynne Crowe and Susan Collier (Mark), both of Knoxville, and two grandsons, Jackson and Isaac (Lorie), both of Knoxville.
Brynne and Susan share immense gratitude to Renee and Jeff Guy for their wonderful care of mom over many years, and especially during the period she lived alone following the death of our dad. We also extend our appreciation to the staff at Morning Pointe who showered attention on mom, as well as the UT Hospice staff.
A graveside service will be planned for later in the spring.
Walters Funeral of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Carolyn Annette Walters Crowe.
