JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Commission held its workshop on Monday evening, setting the agenda for next week. Topping items of discussion included a budget amendment resolution for a $750,000 capital outlay note which will be voted on next week at the regular monthly commission meeting.
The capital outlay note funds will be used for equipment purchases for the Sanitation Department, as well as for the replacement of five rooftop HVAC units for the Justice Center, plus providing additional matching funds for the Dossett Bridge (Bert Loupe Bridge) project. The additional matching funds for the bridge project will be combined with funds from the City of LaFollette to clean up contaminated soil so the project can move forward. This budget amendment passed the budget and finance committee on Monday evening prior to the commission workshop.
Other business items up for approval include Campbell County to participate in two Opioid lawsuits. Also to be voted on will be declaring items dilapidated from the court clerk’s office.
A lease agreement for the property assessor’s office will also be up for a vote.
County Property Assessor Brandon Partin spoke to commissioners on Monday evening requesting to upgrade the phone system in the property assessor’s office from the old copper lines with AT&T to Comcast.
“I would like to go to an internet phone system like Judge Zach Walden’s office as it would be much cheaper and faster than the copper lines,” Partin said.
He also said the switch would save the office $2,100 a year and have better phone service and faster internet.
Commissioner David Adkins said he agreed and that the AT&T system that was used by the Sanitation Department and other departments in the county was also spotty and slow.
Adkins suggested bringing it to the building and grounds committee.
Chairman Johnny Bruce agreed and made the same suggestion.
Partin said he would bring the issue up with the Building and Grounds Committee.
Campbell County Mayor Jack Lynch reported that the next Veteran’s Breakfast is Saturday, September 6, and that Camel Manufacturing is the sponsor.
“Veterans have probably slept in their tents as this is a 100-year-old company,” said Mayor Lynch.
Mayor Lynch also announced that the chamber of commerce and that the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Jacksboro were partnering for a Health Care Job Fair on Tuesday, August 19, from 9am until noon, at TCAT Jacksboro. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-08/12/2025-6AM)
